Peripheral
Denervation is a medical term defining conditions of the
removal of sensory or nerve supply to the tissues of the
extremities. In this series I have used the glove
as a symbol of how people have become denervated or desensitized
to the problems they simultaneously create and try to
overcome globally. Medically these conditions manifest
through a severing or crushing of the nerve axons that
send messages of pain, pleasure, suffering, and so on
to our brain. Conceptually, the severing is created
by social and political ignorance, and complacency.
These sculptures are personal representations of peripheral
denervation I believe to exist socially today.
